Brown Estate in the Chiles Valley District AVA has been producing outstanding premium wines for quite some time and proving themselves to be among the top producers in the area. With wines that present all of the great qualities that the terrior of the district is known for, it is not hard to see why they are gaining more notice every year and we expect that trend to continue well into the future.
Since the purchase of this abandoned homestead in 1980, the family has continually worked to create a great environment and produce some of the best grapes in the region. What began as an abandoned ranch was slowly renovated and restored into a lovely home and vineyard which produced outstanding grapes which were then sold to area winemakers for quite some time. However, the family had its sights set higher than that and in 1995 they made the decision to start producing their own vintages. In 2016 they celebrated the release of a vintage that marked two full decades of winemaking at the estate.
The vineyards themselves are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay, all well-suited to the soils present within the appellation, and the senior Browns have since settled into their own parcel of the land to grow and sell their sections of grapes to area winemakers, while the children have grown the main operation into a thing of absolute beauty. Featured in magazines by 2000, this family clearly had the flair for creating outstanding wines and they’ve continued to do so ever since.
What began as a mere weekend test has turned into a production that places quality at the top of their list and that quality has done nothing but improve over the past few decades. With a staff that is top-notch and a family backing that is nothing short of amazing, the Browns have created a label that collectors and connoisseurs alike are proud to place in their racks. That feat alone would be enough to impress us, as gaining such loyalty requires a lot of dedication. However, it is their wines that really caught our interest with their outstanding features.
One of the vintages we have tried and were delighted by is their 2014 Chaos Theory wine. This delicious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Petite Syrah offers an amazing array of scents including a mouthwatering blackberry that teases the senses and draws you in with undeniable grace. The medium mouthfeel and lovely finish of this vintage have made it a favorite with many of Brown Estate’s followers and we can understand why, as we were won over as well.
