Goose Island is a name that nearly everyone who loves craft beer has heard before, even if they haven’t tried one of their brews. Not having tried a Goose Island brew is unlikely, as they’re one of the biggest names in the craft brewing industry, but it could happen. These folks have been producing amazing craft beer in Chicago, Illinois for several decades and are known by many for their partnership with AB-Inbev (formerly Anheuser-Busch), a partnership that has served Goose Island very well.
Although there are those who might frown over their choice to partner with big brewing, there is something to be said for a small deal made when it was needed. Since that decision means that Goose Island will be around for quite a long time, we’re not complaining! After all, they produce some outstanding craft beer, which is something we love. We’ve tried several of their brews over the years and plan to try more as they release them in the future and we think you should, too!
These folks have a variety of brews on the market and each one is pretty darn great. From their classic brews like Honkers IPA to their vintage ales, you’re sure to find more than one that really catches your taste buds. For example, their vintage ale, Pepe Nero, has an interesting addition of black peppercorn that gives it a unique aroma and flavor. We found this brew to be quite delicious and it paired really well with our rib eye steaks that we selected for dinner.
If you prefer a more hoptastic style of brew, check out their Goose IPA, which features a luscious blend of four varieties of hops, balanced with the addition of Pale malt and pouring a very nice deep copper color. This brew has been winning awards since 2000 and you’ll understand why at the very first sip. It is flagship brews like this that allow a brewery to really keep the focus of those who love their brews.
Goose Island’s founder, John Hall, is highly active in the brewing industry, as well as in the local community, which really sets down the groundwork for greatness. Whether he is advising other brewers in order to guide them along, or taking the time to speak to visitors during a tour, John is vocal about the future of the industry and where he sees Goose Island headed.
Their success, given their proximity to quite a number of other great craft breweries in Chicago, shows exactly how much popularity they have acquired. It also showcases their great beer, because without that they certainly would not have the following that they do. Goose Island is and will continue to be, a leader in the craft brewing industry and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.
If you get a chance, make sure to take a tour of this outstanding brewery. A visit to Chicago may be exactly what you need and while you’re there you can catch a game at Wrigley field, or check out a concert at the former Rosemont Horizon. Afterward, stop back in and let us know what you thought about the brewery! We’d love to hear from you and your comment just might inspire our next feature post!
