Why do we love wine?

Our Journey

What makes us love the wines that we adore? Is it their flavor, aroma, the lovely estates we visit to taste them? Or is it, perhaps, the many amazing people we meet along the way? Our own experiences have led us to ponder this, as we’ve spent a great deal of time visiting many vineyards and wineries throughout the United States and often wonder what really draws us to each place.

The Riesling from Navarro Vineyards is lovely in the glass overlooking West Palm BeachIs it the wines we love or the people?

There are plenty of red wines out there garnering accolades from some of the most well-known connoisseurs in the industry. While not all wine lovers will know their names, they do know the wines. Wines like Cabernet and Merlot. What draws us to these kings of the wine world? Is it the delicious meals we pair them with? The desserts that seem to melt in our mouths when paired up with these robust wines? Or perhaps the real cause is the great people we meet along our journey. Others who are just as in love with red wine as we are, who have no problem sitting for hours discussing the many micro-climates of each vineyard and how they have affected the wines.

Our money goes to the community of wine lovers that come together to taste these delicious premium wines, as it is the camaraderie that we love, more so than the wines themselves. For example, we recently had a great discussion about sustainability while visiting the winery that produces Priest Ranch wines. While the wine itself was absolutely lovely, it was the conversation that truly inspired us.

Sometimes the wine is not the premier event

Another thing that draws all of us to visit vineyards are the many events they hold every year. Whether it is a charity event to bring in funds for a children’s riding program or an event to help out a local family that has seen a loss, these events show us the compassion and dedication many vintners feel towards their communities. This is something we can all learn from, as their example leads us to think about what we can do to help our own communities.

While it would be great to say it is just the lovely red and white wines out there that we love, it is safer to say that the people are our real passion. Yes, we absolutely adore a great Cab, but it tends to be the winemakers and other enthusiasts with whom we find a connection that really sticks in our mind. This is not surprising, as wine seems to be the connecting point for many great moments in our lives and each of those moments involves intriguing people that were involved.
