American Stouts to pick you up

Our Journey

We love checking out the many classic and traditional brewing styles.  However, none of them seem to really measure up for us in comparison to the many American-style brews out there that have taken the classic styles and given them a bit of a twist.  Sure, we absolutely love the many Stouts out there on the market, but sometimes we really lean towards those that are considered to be American Stouts instead.  It has nothing to do with patriotism either, though we’ve had such stated to us many a time.  No, friends, it simply has to do with creativity and expression, which we seem to find in many of the Americanized brewing styles here in the United States.

What are some American Stouts that really possess a unique appeal?

There are plenty of Americanized Stouts out there that are great.  Something about taking a traditional brew and giving it a bit of pizzazz just really makes us smile.  With that in mind, we’ve brought to you a couple of really great American Stouts that we think you will enjoy.  If you get a chance to try them, remember to stop back and tell us about it!

  • Bell’s Special Double Cream Stout
    • This brew is not only from an outstanding craft brewery, but it possesses a uniqueness that we simply could not let pass us by.  Something about it just really caught our attention and our taste buds!  Perhaps it’s the ten (yes ten!) different malts used or the fact that it has a smooth finish like no other, but this brew just really stuck in our mind.  Please note that the name has nothing to do with the ingredients overall unless you’re talking about the absolutely creamy texture!
  • Chicory Stout
    • Dogfish Head is already really well-known for their outstanding brews, but instead of one of the most common selections, we really loved the Chicory Stout they have to offer.  While it may not be a perfect ten for everyone, it is one of the first brews that really came about through the creativity of their brewmaster, making it a special brew in our eyes.  Overall, the flavor and aromas of the brew are outstanding and we can still remember the lovely texture and finish.  Generally only available on draft, this is a rare brew in the DFH taproom and can only be caught on tap.

Tell us about the great American Stouts you have found!

We love to hear from our readers, so be sure to leave us a comment about the great American Stouts you have come across in your craft beer travels.  Who knows, perhaps your comment will spark our next feature post!  In the meantime, from all of us here at West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault, happy tasting!
