We love a great IPA. Well, most of us do. Our resident portaholic says she’d rather pretend they don’t exist most of the time, but we’ve already decided she is lacking a piece of beer DNA (and she agrees). Something about a really great IPA simply brings a smile to our faces, and we don’t mean that smile that is accompanied by beer goggles either. Therefore, we’ve put together a couple of the IPAs we’ve come across that really impressed us with their aromas, flavors, and overall composition. We hope you get a chance to check them out and that you’ll tell us about your views as well! In the meantime, on to the IPAs!
Nothing is quite as refreshing as a great IPA at the end of a hard day of work. Unless it’s payday, of course, as that paycheck does sooth the soul a bit until you pay the bills, of course. However, all evil bill hounding demons aside, the fact that you can kick back, relax, and enjoy a great IPA is quite satisfying and we’ve put together a couple of double IPAs that you really ought to check out while you have the time.
This delicious double IPA from Funky Buddha is the perfect end to a rough day. No matter what the day has thrown at you, this brew can help to ease the frustration and erase the frown. With a generous amount of hops varieties and a full malt body that cannot be beaten, this brew is perfectly balanced. However, you really might want to keep an eye on that 9.5% ABV, as you’re not going to notice the potency until it is too late. Sure to be present during shenanigans, this brew is worth a taste!
This year-round delight from Stone Brewing Company is a monster. As the very first West Coast IPA in the world, this brew has held its title as THE double IPA to try for quite some time. We can understand why, as the outstanding hoppy flavor features the perfect hints of pine and luscious fruit, while the IBUs are enough to make you do a double-take. Yes, the IBUs really do sit at 100+ with this brew and it still remains the master of the double IPA in our view.
Squatters Craft Beers really hit it out of the park with their brew, Hop Rising. This double IPA features some amusing label art, great flavor, heavenly aromas, and of course, with a name like Squatters you just have to try it for the folk value. At 9% ABV and pushing 72 IBUs, this one is going to be memorable, just as it was for us here at West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault in South Florida. We plan to take another trip to grab more of this brew when we get a chance and we think you should check it out, too.
We love hearing from our readers, so leave us a comment about the great double IPAs you’ve come across! Also, remember to stop in later this year as we’ll be opening our doors to the public here at West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault and we’d love to see you there! In the meantime, happy tasting!
