Hookie Bobb is a Crazy IPA

Our Journey

Crazy Mountain Brewing Company in Colorado is a great craft brewery.  They have three locations in Colorado, as well as a spot in Chicago at the famous Latinicity.  They’ve been created outstanding craft beer for quite a few years now and their brews are available in 22 states throughout the United States and 9 countries!  It’s easy to see how they’ve gained such wide-spread popularity with such outstanding coverage of the world map.

We decided to check out their brews and chose Hookie Bobb IPA as our first selection.  We’d already checked out the buzz at BeerAdvocate, RateBeer, and Untappd, so we knew this brew would be pretty interesting.  The overall view is that it is a well-balanced IPA that really masks the ABV, which reminded us that we might want to be cautious, as those IPAs are the ones that reach up and bite you when you’re not looking.

A great IPA for an equally great afternoon of tasting

The first thing we noticed about this brew was the outstanding label art.  We love great label art, so seeing that was a refreshing change from the many non-descript labels we all see on the commercial industry shelves.  The brew itself pours a lovely golden hue and has a reasonable head that has plenty of carbonation to it.  Just the slightest haze was present in the glass, which gave it an almost surreal tint.

The aroma had plenty of citrus notes, as expected, along with a bare hint of sweet floral that we couldn’t quite place.  There were also bare hints of pine in there that came and went as the brew evolved in the glass.  As for the flavor profile, you’ll find a bit of a bready note, along with plenty more citrus and again that piney flavor.  We enjoyed this brew, as it was an easy-drinker, but that is certainly something to watch, as the ABV really does hide in there.

Overall we liked the brew, loved the label art, and plan to try some of the other Crazy Mountain brews out there in the near future.  We look forward to hearing what you thought about this brew, so leave us a comment and let us know about this or any other Crazy Mountain brews that you’ve tried.  We love to hear from our readers and your comment just might spark our next feature post.  In the meantime, we’ll be busy working on our own brewery opening here in West Palm Beach, Florida which is coming up later this year, so make sure to check back for updates!
