What makes craft beer so popular?

Our Journey

Over the past few decades, it seems like new craft breweries have been popping up all over the place.  Here in the United States, we’ve seen an exponential increase in the number of craft breweries and we think that is awesome!  However, what really makes craft beer so popular?

Wine and spirits have helped to make craft beer so popular in recent yearsQuality is one of the keys to what makes craft beer so popular

Sure, commercial brews get plenty of sales, but does that really mean they are better?  After all, we can drink a gallon of water for a cheap price, too.  That does not make it popular in terms of quality or taste.  Craft breweries all over the world focus on quality standards that truly do outshine many industries.  In fact, they seem to find new ways to improve the quality every year!

Wondering why we have a picture of a wine rack over there?  That is because wine and spirits have had a hand in making craft beer so popular over the years.  Yes, the quality of craft beer is one of the most important keys to its popularity, but flavor and aroma run a close second, and wine helps!

How do wine and spirits improve the popularity of craft beer?

Classic craft beer styles are loved the world over.  However, in recent years, those brews that are aged in wine or spirits barrels are really gaining ground!  For example, look at Backwoods Bastard from Founders Brewing Company.  That is a great brew!  Aged in bourbon barrels, this brew has quickly gained a following, one which we are part of!  Here at West Palm Beach Brewery, we appreciate innovation and great craft beer and this is certainly one!

There are plenty of amazing craft brews out there that have been aged in wine barrels, bourbon barrels, and more!  In fact, “sour” brews are even gaining notice, which is just more proof that the craft brewing industry is taking over the community, one brew at a time.
