Embrace the craft beer stout! (don’t be afraid of it)

Embrace the craft beer stout! (don’t be afraid of it)

Who loves a big, dark, strong beer?  Dan G from the West Palm Brewery does! Dan and I would often joke about how he does not really LOVE IPA’s, but I do.   The truth is, Dan is learning to love IPA’s and hoppy craft beers.  But, he does love the stouts and the porters. So, do I! So, our tasting panel tried the Stone (great beer producer !!) American Stout.  Just great.  Another great Stout is Oskar Blues 10 Fiddy ( a 10.5% stout).  Just great stuff. Embrace the Stout!!!

Who likes Porters from a great craft brewery?

Who likes Porters from a great craft brewery?

On Clematis Street in downtown West Palm Beach, the restaurants do a good job of rotating beers.  After all, South Florida craft beer lovers enjoy variety, right? Better restaurants typically have a number of standard draft and bottle selections, but many rotate two or three drafts and add to their bottle offerings of craft beer. Places like Alchemist, Hullabaloo http://sub-culture.org/hullabaloo/and Grease http://www.greasewpb.com/ have great selection and variety.   And good food. So, the next time you are out in West Palm Beach, consider looking for a porter, which, admittedly, you don’t see on tap that often.  The draft selections seem to […]

Sweet oak & bourbon barrels make great barleywine ale

Sweet oak & bourbon barrels make great barleywine ale

Wow.  I’m interrupting the West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault’s tasting panel to blog about bourbon barrel aging. Everyone knows that a lot of craft breweries around the country, not just South Florida, age their beers, or some of their beers, in bourbon barrels. Bourbon barrels can create a “sting” or a whiskey sensation that is sharp, a bit harsh. But, try the Goose Island  Bourbon County Barleywine Ale.  It is delicious.  You get a lot of sweet oak ( I assume the barrels are oak.)  You will love this or hate it, and I’m betting that you really […]

Do you like craft beer aged in rum barrels?

Do you like craft beer aged in rum barrels?

So, we all know that some blonde ales may be aged in chardonnay, or white wine barrels, right? And, you can get the “Scotch” or “bourbon” “burn” from, for example, a Russian Imperial Stout which is aged in bourbon barrels. But do craft beer lovers enjoy beer that has been aged in rum barrels? Well, check out Ipswich Ale’s Clown Shoes series of beers which are now available, limitedly, in Florida. http://www.ipswichalebrewery.com/ The Clown Shoes Hammer of the Beast has been described as an American strong ale which is an imperial stout and barleywine ale aged in rum barrels.  https://www.clownshoesbeer.com/ For those of […]

Who likes oatmeal stouts?

Who likes oatmeal stouts?

So, there is always a balance to enjoying a good stout or porter, right? If there’s too many “coffee” overtones, or too much “chocolate”, you may not like it, right?  I mean with too much “stuff”, the beer stops being….well…. a beer.  That’s one of the challenges of being a master brewer, right?  You have to keep a beer a beer and then tweak it to give the craft beer lover a new experience that won’t assault the integrity of the beer.   But when you get a good balance of, say, coffee flavor, malts, carbonation, the experience of a […]

Will West Palm Beach Get Its 1st Outdoor Beer Garden?

Will West Palm Beach Get Its 1st Outdoor Beer Garden?

The West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault is “full speed ahead” on bringing the downtown not only its first brewery and tap room of craft beer, but also the city’s first beer garden. The attached computer generated image was provided by designers hired by the West Palm Brewery and shows what the outdoor area of the brewery at 332 Evernia Street may look like. In staying with the indoor theme of reclaimed wood and Napa tasting room meets Aspen lodge, the outdoor beer garden has vineyard trellis draped with vines, illuminated by white lights for an elegant evening scene. […]

West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault to offer outdoor beer garden

So, would you like to enjoy a nice, cold, craft beer outside, at night under the Florida stars?  Well, our designers, contractors and architects are working overtime at the West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault to do just that. http://www.westpalmbeer.com Imagine sipping a great Los Carneros Chardonnay or big Napa Cabernet Sauvignon, and nibbling on cheese plates, while your friends enjoy a Palm Beach Pilsner or Lithuanian Imperial Stout? ….Outside, seated or standing, under the stars and under the vine-lined trellis. While we have, so far, focused on the interior of downtown West Palm Beach’s first craft brewery, our attention […]

West Palm Beach Brewery Loves a Good Chocolate Porter

West Palm Beach Brewery Loves a Good Chocolate Porter

Ever crave a dark rich beer that has a delicious flavor and experience, even a little dessert-like? Ever want to have a beer almost as an after dinner dessert? We at West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault http://www.WestPalmBeer.com love Pilsners and IPA’s.  And, as JP says, who doesn’t love a Blonde?  In fact, we expect to offer about 4-6 India Pale Ale’s when we open sometime around April of 2017. But, we also like big, dark beers, too.  One that seems to be a consistent favorite, especially among our tasting panels, is the Boulder Beer Company Shake Chocolate Porter.http://boulderbeer.com/ I first tried […]

9 Reasons Why West Palm Beach’s Craft Brewery Scene is Getting HOT + Will Get Hotter

9 Reasons Why West Palm Beach’s Craft Brewery Scene is Getting HOT + Will Get Hotter

So, why is everyone talking about West Palm Beach as the hot, new craft brewery scene in South Florida? New laws. The City of West Palm Beach passed first-ever brewery regulations in September of 2016, paving the way for small lot production of beer in the downtown area and the operation of tap rooms within the city. Cidery expands to brewery.  The “cidery” in the Westgate part of town known as Accomplice Cider has expanded to now offer craft beer. http://www.accomplicebrewery.com/  They have changed their name to Accomplice Brewery & Ciderworks. (Accomplice is a very cool, small brewery with an industrial […]

The first craft brewery to offer serious, premium wines? West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault

So, we know that Florida craft breweries and tap rooms offer beer lovers a wide variety of custom, artisanal beer, right?  REALLY good beer made right on the premises.  Lots of IPA’s, pilsners, stouts, porters and ales.  But what’s up with this West Palm Beach Brewery & Wine Vault? What’s a wine vault? http://westpalmbeer.com/ “The idea of craft beer emanated from JP’s interest in premium wines.  He owns or owned vineyard land and real estate in Napa and Santa Barbara.  He has dozens of friends who are winery owners, grape growers, wine makers and vineyard managers.  After he heard his buddies describing […]
