Summertime is a great time for a barbecue!

Our Journey

With warmer weather comes the enjoyment of cookouts. This gives us a wealth of opportunity to check out new craft breweries, craft brewing styles, and friends. The craft brewing community has grown into one that is nearly boundless over the past few decades, with over 4,000 craft breweries opening their doors throughout the United States alone. This has led to an interesting shift from the more standard fare of brews to one where interesting flavors and aromas are the kings.

Just as Cab is King in the winemaking industry, there are some kings of the craft brewing industry as well, though that title may be given to a variety of different brews depending on where you are. However, no great brew is complete without some awesome food to go with it and it is the season for pairing!

Fire up the grill and grab your growler!

There are a variety of foods that you’re likely to find at the many barbecues you frequent this season, so be prepared with some great craft beer to pair up with them. Below, we have listed some of the great food that you might run into (or at least we hope you will).

  • Barbeque Half-rack St. Louis style ribs
  • Grilled Asparagus
  • Pan Sauteed Garlic Shrimp with Scallops
  • Seared Tri-tip steak
  • Seasoned Ribeye
  • Grill baked potatoes with garlic and onion
  • Stuffed pork chops

These are just a few of the delicious foods that are possible, but there are plenty more out there! No doubt you’ve come across plenty of the “typical” fare, including smoked sausage, polish sausage, beer brats, and the like, but the above foods have flavors that really pop when paired up with a crisp craft beer. Choose a brew that is pretty light on the ABV for the longer brew sessions, as you certainly don’t want to lose your head in the heat of the day. Safety is the most important concern when dealing with the summer heat, so leave the heady brews alone until night falls.

Above all, try to be creative and see if you can find some great brews that are sessionable for the daytime events while enjoying some of the headier offerings for those kicking nighttime bonfires. Don’t forget to fill up a growler and share with your friends, as they’ll likely want to try pairing their food as well. Also, be sure to stop in and leave us a comment about the foods you have paired up with brews! We’d love to hear from you and your story might be the inspiration for our next feature! Until then, happy pairing from all of us here at West Palm Beach Brewery and Wine Vault in South Florida!
