No match for Small Batch

No match for Small Batch

We love craft beer.  We love it enough that we travel all over the United States to try new brews and are working on opening our own craft brewery and wine vault here in South Florida in October.  That being said, there are some craft brews that we simply cannot stand to miss.  These are the small batch brews that each craft brewery comes up with on a whim.  The brews that, although they are amazing, are kept to those small-batch amounts and can be missed in the blink of an eye. There really is no match for small batch […]

IPAs and great food pairing

IPAs and great food pairing

Recently, we’ve spent quite a bit of time checking into different craft beer, new craft breweries, and outstanding brewers here in the United States.  The result has been the creation of a long list of really great, high-quality craft beers and breweries that we plan to revisit.  However, we don’t spend that much time talking about the food pairing aspect of craft beer.  We’d like to change that, so today, we’re going to focus on the really great food we’ve had that paired up well with our brews. With so many different types of craft beer on the market, it […]

Craft beer events are great!

Craft beer events are great!

Craft beer events are a great way to get the word out about new brews, new labels, and new craft breweries.  It also shows appreciation for your patrons and offers them the chance to try a new brew with friends while enjoying a great event.  Many craft breweries across the United States are committing themselves to tasting events and have done so for several decades now.  Much like the bigger companies such as AB-Inbev, these breweries are learning that people love to come out for an event and try some great beer while enjoying activities set up for that event. […]

The Portaholic strikes again with more porters to try

The Portaholic strikes again with more porters to try

When it comes to porters, the market has a great variety of porters to try and our resident Portaholic loves to report on them.  From Funky Buddha and their Imperial Maple Bacon Coffee Porter to Founders Brewing, craft breweries all over the United States are popping up with a porter or two that really quench our need for a great porter.  This trend is growing as several breweries produce new craft beer in the porter style every year. Porters have a great range of options for food pairing Porters like Goanna Brewing’s Canadian Creamy Porter are great for a number of […]

Barley wine ale: Too good to miss

Barley wine ale: Too good to miss

When it comes to barley wine ale, the British definitely had it figured out.  This historical brew made it to the Americas safe and sound, but has, naturally, been altered over time.  Not to say the results aren’t great because the brews that many new craft breweries are popping up with here in the United States are nothing short of amazing.  In fact, we’ve found several that come so close to the traditional types that we had to ask the brewmasters which style they were aiming for.  Most have said they are aiming for British-style barley wine ale because it’s […]

Malty brews are great!

Malty brews are great!

If you’ve had more than four or five different craft beers, you’ve likely run across a few malty brews already.  This is a given because there are so many craft beers on the market that contain copious amounts of malt.  While many are in love with their hoppy IPAs, we have to openly state that malty brews are great!  Sure, we love our hop-filled craft beers too, but there is a space in our hearts that only a great malty brew can fill. What exactly are malty brews? When we speak of “malty brews”, we are referring to craft beers that […]

Oldest brewery in Nevada: Great Basin Brewing

Oldest brewery in Nevada: Great Basin Brewing

While Great Basin may not be the oldest brewery ever in the state of Nevada, it is the oldest brewery still operating at this time.  The oldest and longest running brewery in the state was Carson Brewing Company, which was in operation until 1948 when the business was liquidated.  The building is currently home to the Brewery Arts Center.  As for Great Basin, they were established in 1993 and were the first operating brewery in the state since the dissolution of Carson Brewing Company in 1948.  Great Basin has made great strides since their conception and their label has spread […]
