Chardonnay Fans: must attend

If you enjoy white wines, this white wine tasting is not to be missed. The November 13, 2019 white wine tasting will feature five wines, including two Chardonnays.  One Chardonnay is from Napa and one from Santa Barbara, the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. ” My 2017 Napa Valley Chardonnay is light in color, deep in flavor but never over-powering” says John Pankauski. Production is limited: 110 cases of this Chardonnay.  “My wines are never over-oaked.  I think of my Napa Chardonnay as an American Montrachet.” Pankauski also has a 2017 Chardonnay from one of his favorite AVAs, the Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara. For folks who want to try something a bit different, the “prize” of this white wine tasting may be the 2018 groovy.  “I got about 2 tons of Gruner Veltliner from the Arroyo Perdido Vineyard in Santa Barbara” begins Pankauski.  “We only have 85 cases of my groovy.” Pankauski describes this wine as a wonderful experience somewhere between Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The 85 case production, 2018 groovy (Gruner Veltliner) is made in Santa Barbara. Groovy has notes of pear on the nose, leading to smooth fruit with a “sauvignon blanc-like crispness” on the end.
